About me

I’m Jonathan Gonzales, a Director of Photography and documentary filmmaker dedicated to capturing honest, emotionally driven stories. With 5+ years of professional experience, I’ve built a body of work that spans gritty on-the-ground documentaries, brand storytelling, interview-driven pieces, and narrative shorts.

My approach blends technical precision with a deep respect for the people and environments I film. Whether I’m embedded in communities across the country for Taboo Room or shaping polished brand activations for clients, my focus is always the same: create imagery that feels real, human, and cinematic.

I specialize in designing shots from script to screen — handling lighting, composition, movement, and post-production workflows in both Premiere and DaVinci Resolve. I’ve filmed in high-pressure, unpredictable environments across the U.S., working quickly, safely, and unobtrusively while still delivering standout visuals.

As a self-employed DP, I bring a full production mindset to every project: clear communication, efficient planning, and deliverables tailored to each client’s goals. I’ve worked with brands, small businesses, artists, nonprofits, and production teams who trust me to elevate their stories and present them with authenticity and impact.

If you’re looking for cinematic visuals, grounded storytelling, and a collaborator who can guide the creative from idea to final color grade — I’m here to help bring your project to life.
